What you need to know

• Backyard or fenced setups need a gate or opening at least 6 feet wide.

• Anyone sitting on the seat must be 18 or older and no more than 250 lbs.

• You’ll need a garden hose and an outdoor tap. Filling takes about 40 minutes at normal water pressure.

• Once filled, the tank is very heavy (well over 800 lbs) and can’t be lifted or moved, so pick its final spot before filling.

Townhouse or tight backyard? Try the Big Splash Reverse Dunk

Plenty of homes in central Oshawa, and newer townhouses up north, don’t have a 6-foot gate or room for a full-size tank. The Big Splash Reverse Dunk takes up far less space. Hit the target and the person in the chair gets soaked from above, so you get the same laughs without the big tank.

Planning a dunk tank in Oshawa

• The tank needs running water, meaning a tap within reach of a garden hose. That’s easy in a backyard but harder in a park, so check before you book.

• Thinking about Lakeview Park or another city park? The City of Oshawa takes bookings for group picnics at the waterfront, and park events may need a permit. Sort that out first, then book the tank.

• Tap water is cold. If you fill the tank a couple of hours before guests arrive, the sun takes some of the chill off.

• June weekends, Canada Day and fun-fair season book up first, so reserve two to three weeks ahead.
