From the older lots around Bay Ridges and Rosebank to the new streets in Seaton and Duffin Heights, Pickering has every kind of yard. We come over from Oshawa, put the tent up and return to take it down.

Pickering customers book tents for backyard weddings, graduation parties, open houses and community events. Tell us your guest count and what you are planning, and we will work out a size and layout with you.

Marquee and pole tents give a large group one open space for dinner and speeches. Our crew sets them up level and secure. Newer Pickering lots are often graded or still settling, so we check the ground before we stake.

For a smaller group, a canopy tent is the cheaper option. Our canopies come in 10x10, 10x15 and 10x20, and we can join them together for a longer covered area, though joined canopies aren’t recommended if rain is likely. A single canopy is often all you need for a kids’ party or a shaded serving area. Some of the smaller canopies can also be picked up for free from our Oshawa location.

If the tent can’t be staked, for example on asphalt, concrete or interlock, we hold it down with concrete weights or water barrels. Which one we use depends on the forecast and the site: in an open area concrete weights are a must, while a backyard sheltered by houses may only need water barrels, which usually cost less.

Driveways and parking lots work well for neighbourhood events in the newer subdivisions where lawns are still young.

Near Frenchman’s Bay the wind can pick up, so sidewalls are a good idea there. We also rent flooring, artificial turf, a dance floor, string lights, uplights, flood lights, heaters, fans and coolers.

Planning a tent in Pickering

• If we’ll be staking into the ground, request free underground utility locates from Ontario One Call before your install date.

• Larger tents may need a permit from the City of Pickering. Check with them first; we’ll supply the tent documents they ask for.

• New sod and fresh grading can be soft. If your lawn was laid recently, let us know so we can plan the anchoring.

• Book early for June. Graduations and weddings overlap that month.

• Esplanade Park hosts many of the city’s own festivals. For a private event there or in another park, check with the City of Pickering first.
